Men's Basketball Drops Wednesday GNAC Game vs. Albertus Magnus

BOSTON – With efficient shooting being difficult to find for both sides on Wednesday night, the Albertus Magnus Falcons scored a 76-57 victory over the Emmanuel Saints in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Yosinoff Court. The win moves the Falcons to 10-5 (2-0 GNAC) this season, while the loss has Emmanuel at 7-8 (1-1 GNAC).

Despite shooting 33.8 percent on the night, Albertus held Emmanuel to under 30 percent shooting on the night. The difference came from the foul line as 26-for-33 shooting from the free throw stripe for the Falcons helped the visitors to victory.

Emmanuel came out of the gate with momentum, securing an early lead in the first half. The Saints trailed by one before an 10-0 surge over a 4:06 span gave the home side an 18-11 edge. Albertus slowed chipped away before overtaking the deficit, using an 18-6 run through the middle of the half, to take a 29-24 lead. The Falcons lead would hold until the break, as Albertus hit the locker rooms up 38-35.

Much like Emmanuel did to open the game, Albertus Magnus had their strongest display to start the second half, using an 18-2 surge in the opening 7:14 of the half, racing out to a 19-point lead, 56-37. Albertus led by double digits throughout the second half, leading by as many as 21 late in the game, on the way to a 76-57 road win.

For the Falcons, Tazhon Daniels led all players with 30 points, using 14-of-16 shooting at the line to reach the game-high total. Ray Ford Jr. added 23 points and eight rebounds, while Jayquan Kirkland chipped in with 14 points.

Saints junior Cameron Snowden had 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Fellow junior Mahari Guerrier scored 11 points while adding a team-high nine boards. Junior Noah Beaudet and first-year Ryan Rangel both scored nine points in the loss.

The Saints are off for nearly a week as they return to play on Tuesday, Jan. 20, traveling to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a GNAC game at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 17, hosting New England College at 3:00 p.m.
