West Hartford, CT – Emmanuel College women's basketball put together a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Joseph (CT), 70-44, at James A. Calhoun Gymnasium to improve to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
The Saints controlled the game from the opening tip, building an early 8-0 lead and never looking back. Emmanuel's defense set the tone in the first quarter, limiting the Blue Jays to just 1-of-11 shooting from the field while forcing multiple turnovers. The Saints took a 17-3 advantage into the second period.
Forward Nylah Mitchell paced Emmanuel with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, adding seven rebounds, three steals, and one block. Guard Geanna Bryant contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and a game-high seven assists in a complete performance.
Emmanuel's defensive effort was the difference-maker, holding Saint Joseph to just 26.2% shooting from the field (16-of-61) and forcing 32 turnovers. The Saints converted those miscues into 20 points while also dominating the paint with 38 points compared to Saint Joseph's 22.
The Blue Jays struggled particularly in the first quarter, managing only three points, and could never recover despite a more competitive second half. Ella Kulas led Saint Joseph's with 12 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.
After taking a 32-16 halftime lead, Emmanuel extended its advantage in the third quarter with a 26-point explosion. The Saints shot 75% from the free-throw line in the period and continued to attack the basket relentlessly.
The Saints received significant contributions from their bench, with Kalia Saunders scoring eight points in just 15 minutes. Saunders was efficient around the basket, converting 4-of-6 field goal attempts and providing energy on both ends of the floor. Kendyl Ouimette and Charlotte Jordan provided key contributions, combining for 12 points.
Emmanuel's largest lead reached 28 points late in the fourth quarter as the Saints cruised to their fourth consecutive conference victory.
