BOSTON - For the first time in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) era, Emmanuel women's volleyball earned a victory over a top-25 NPI-ranked program, defeating the No. 24 ranked Emerson Lions 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22, 15-13) on Friday night at Brown & Plofker Gym. The Lions were also receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll entering this week. The Saints win moves them to 14-2, while the Lions drop to 13-3.
After a dominant third set by the Lions, winning the frame 25-14, the Saints answered back in a big way to force a fifth set. A 6-0 run in the middle of the set took the Saints from down three to leading 17-14. The two sides proceeded to win two consecutive points, back and forth, through the rest of the set, leading to the Saints winning the set 25-22.
In the deciding frame, the Saints used a 5-0 run in the early portion of the set to grab control. Three kills and two blocks contributed to the five-point spurt that gave the Saints a 6-2 edge. The Lions managed to cut the deficit to one on multiple occasions, but Emmanuel answered back, pulling away at every turn. Emerson defended two set points but Saints junior
Letitia Bossou put the match away with a match-clinching kill for a 15-13 set win.
Bossou finished with a match-high 20 kills, hitting .364 on the night. First-year
Delilah Davis added a career-best 18 kills on a .342 percentage. Senior
Kason Huynh finished with a double-double of 19 assists and 16 digs. Sophomore
Danielle Burkett had a match-high seven total blocks.
The Saints are back in action tomorrow morning, welcoming Dean to the Jean Yawkey Center for an 11:00 a.m. match. Before the conference contest, the Saints will celebrate the Class of 2027 in a Senior Day celebration.
