Boston - On Senior Night, women's basketball remained perfect in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday night as they dominated the struggling Mitchell Mariners (2-18, 0-11), 95-59. Senior
Megan Reilly put together her best effort in a Saints uniform, posting a career-high 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
Â
Emmanuel (17-6, 10-0) wasted no time on senior night, as before Mitchell even got into the score column, they were facing a 24 point deficit. The Saints turned an elite press into constant offense, putting a squeeze on any Mitchell offense. This was highlighted by a tipped pass steal from junior
Charlotte Jordan, quickly resulting in a
Nylah Mitchell fastbreak finish to cap the run with under five minutes to play in the period.
Â
Mitchell was able to find its footing a bit in the second half of the quarter, finishing the final 4:20 of the frame by actually outsourcing Emmanuel, 10-9, but still found themselves in a 33-10 hole.
Â
The second quarter featured more of the same as the Saints kept the pedal on the gas. Outscoring the Mariners 26-6 in the frame. A three from first year guard
Shea Canavan off a swing from Jordan capped off a 16-4 run to end the quarter, three of her team-high 10 in the first half. Emmanuel was in full command as the teams headed into the break, 59-16.
Â
The Mariners were able to put together a run in the third frame, going on a 16-2 run as they found some outside shooting from Jade Hypolite and Jamya Beddoe. This run spanned the final four minutes of the period, but the Saints remained firmly in control, holding a 77-35 advantage as the quarter closed.
Â
The loudest crowd pop of the night occurred midway through the fourth when
Megan Reilly buried her third three of the season, just three of her career high 17 points on the night. Reilly led the way on senior night, as the team polished off Mitchell by a score of 95-59.
Â
The Saints offense featured a balanced attack tonight with Canavan and Jordan combined for 19 points and five threes off the bench.
Tyra Blye and
Geanna Bryant also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
