Men’s Basketball Extends Winning Streak to Five, Handling Norwich 76-66

Boston - Men's Basketball extended their winning streak to five games on Tuesday night after pulling away late from Norwich. In a back-and-forth affair, Emmanuel (13-11, 7-5) used some big late game offense from Noah Beaudet and Mahari Guerrier to lift the Saints past Norwich (9-15, 4-7), 76-66.

The Cadets grabbed the early lead by a score of 7-2 after a tough finish from Charles Nogard, but it didn't take long after for Emmanuel to find its footing. The Saints followed that layup up with a 15-4 run, capped off by a crafty finish from first year Danny Adams.

With nine to play in the first frame, a left wing three from first year Aidan Oliveira gave the team a 20-14 advantage. Norwich quickly countered with an 8-1 spurt to grab the lead back at 22-21.

The rest of the half was a battle for both sides, with neither team getting a lead of bigger than three, this was until a tough contested jumper by Beaudet gave the Saints a 35-30 lead with two minutes to play. Emmanuel held the lead as both teams headed into the break with a score of 35-32.

Emmanuel grabbed the first four points of the second half, to go along with a seven-point lead. Norwich would refuse to go away though, as they countered with a 10-2 run to grab the lead back at 42-41.

As time ticked off the clock in the second half, neither side could sustain any momentum. With just over five minutes to play and the Cadets holding a 57-56 advantage, a loose ball found Oliveira, who quickly dished it down low to Guerrier who needed just one hand to spike it home. This was followed by back-to-back buckets from Adams to give Emmanuel some breathing room at 62-57.

With the home team leading by a score of 64-58 with over two minutes to play, first year Manny Duran missed a tough layup, but did not give up on the play. He quickly stripped the Norwich guard, and finished the layup to give the Saints an eight point advantage with only 120 seconds to play.

With 40 seconds left and Emmanuel leading by eight, Norwich was in scramble drill defensively, but excellent ball movement from the Saints led to a wide-open look from the corner for Noah Beaduet, as he put the dagger into the Cadets.

Junior Mahari Guerrier led the team in scoring with 22 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Danny Adams continued his impressive rookie season, tallying 20 points on the night. Manny Duran also gave the Saints big minutes tonight, adding in six points to go along with a steal and a block.
