WESTON, Mass. - A first half surge of 53 points on 56.1 percent shooting for Emmanuel women's basketball helped the Saints stay perfect in conference play with a 90-76 win over the Regis Pride on Tuesday evening from Higgins Court in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Saints move to 14-5 (7-0 GNAC) and are winners in five straight games. The loss drops Regis to 9-12 (6-2 GNAC), as they join a group of three teams with two conference losses this season.
The offensive barrage started from the opening tip as the Saints posted their third-highest scoring quarter of the season, shooting 13-for-22 from the floor on the way to a 31-point opening frame. After an even start, the Saints pushed ahead with a 7-0 run to take an 11-4 lead. The single-digit lead held until the final 1:08 of the half as Emmanuel outscored Regis 6-2 in the final 68 seconds to hold a 31-20 lead through a quarter.Â
Emmanuel's offense stayed hot entering the second quarter, as another 10-minute stretch of shooting over 50 percent helped the Saints to a 53-34 lead at the break. The visitors used a 13-4 run to close the half over the final 4:22, as they led by 19 at halftime. First-year
Nylah Mitchell scored 21 points in 14 minutes of first half play, while sophomore
Tyra Blye had 11 points at the half.
The Saints lead grew to as many as 27 in the second half, as Emmanuel used a 14-2 surge in the span of 2:59 to open up a 69-42 advantage. The Pride closed to as close as 14 in the final seconds, scoring the last six points of the night, as Emmanuel took home the 90-76 victory.
Mitchell finished the night with a career-high 27 points on 13-of-17 shooting, while Blye chipped in with 22 points on 10-for-15 from the floor. Mitchell and Blye are the first set of Saints teammates to score at least 20 points in the same game since Feb. 12, 2020, when Yuleska Ramirez-Tejada ('20) and Loredana D'Agostino ('22), scored 25 and 20, respectively, in a 73-71 win over Albertus Magnus.
Pride senior

The Saints open up a three-game road trip on Saturday, Feb. 7, traveling to Elms for a GNAC tip at 3:00 p.m. The Pride are back in action on Saturday hosting New England College at 3:00 p.m. for Regis' Senior Day.
