FRANKLIN, MA — Emmanuel College men's volleyball wasted no time Thursday evening, sweeping Dean College 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-17) at Pieri Gymnasium to improve to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
The Saints were efficient from start to finish, posting a blistering .385 team hitting percentage across the match while holding the Bulldogs to just a .083 clip on the night.
Emmanuel dominated the first set wire to wire, hitting .458 and surrendering just 12 points. The Bulldogs showed more fight in the second set, keeping things closer, but the Saints maintained control throughout. A dominant third set — Emmanuel hit .579 — closed the door convincingly.
Junior Trey Guest was the standout performer of the evening, recording 10 kills on 14 attempts without an error for a .714 hitting percentage. Guest added three service aces and a block, finishing with 14 points — the highest total of any player on either side.
Brendan McGinley provided a complement at the net, tallying seven kills on a .333 clip while adding two service aces and a team-best two block solos, finishing with 11 points. Eric Barcelos chipped in three kills and an ace, while Nathan Sierra-Suan and Cody Gibendi each contributed efficiently, hitting 1.000 and .600 respectively and adding a combined two aces and two blocks.
Setting distribution was spread across multiple contributors. Tye Barrett directed the offense with 18 assists and two digs, while Loden Broe added eight assists. Nick Sciabica controlled the back row with four digs, and Carlton Cummings provided a spark with two kills, an ace, and a 1.000 hitting mark in his two sets of action.
Emmanuel's nine team service aces to Dean's one proved to be another decisive factor, applying consistent pressure throughout the match.
