New London, N.H. - The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team put on an offensive clinic Saturday afternoon, setting a new program record goals scored in a single game and rolling past Colby-Sawyer, 25-1, to move to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
The Saints wasted no time, as Chase Greenlaw opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the first quarter off an assist from Ethan Madura. Emmanuel never looked back, pouring in nine goals in the opening period and leading 16-0 at halftime. The offense continued to click in the third quarter, adding six more goals before the Saints closed out the contest with three in the fourth.
Madura led all scorers with four goals and two assists, while Austin Overmeyer matched him with four goals of his own. Cole Cloney, Brandon Shuman, and Greenlaw each added hat tricks, and Ty Carroll and Kellan Connor each chipped in two goals. Nikko Kelly and Connor were catalysts from the assist column, each recording four helpers to go along with their individual goals. Emmanuel's extra-man unit was a perfect 2-for-2 on the afternoon, with Shuman and Carroll both converting man-up opportunities.
On the defensive end, the Saints were dominant. Emmanuel outshot Colby-Sawyer 62-7, held a 58-29 edge in ground balls, and went 24-6 in faceoffs. Goalkeeper Jake Lynn was barely tested, making four saves and surrendering only a fourth-quarter goal to James Masterson for the game's lone Colby-Sawyer score.
Emmanuel's clears were impeccable throughout, going a flawless 17-for-17 while the Cougars struggled to move the ball, converting just 8 of 21 clear attempts.
