Box Score Boston – On Senior day, the Saints grabbed a much-needed victory in thrilling fashion over the visiting Regis Pride (14-13, 1-4). After dropping the first set, the Saints (10-12, 3-2) went on to take the next three sets behind a big day from senior
Trey Guest.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team grabbing a lead of more than two until a kill from the Pride's John Nangle, to give the team a 20-17 lead. Regis would hold on the rest of the set, winning by a score of 25-21.
Early on in set two, the Pride remained in control, as they grabbed a 10-6 lead. The lead for the visitors was 13-9, when the Saints kicked it into gear. They scored four of the next five points to cut the lead down to one at 14-13, this was highlighted by a powerful kill from Guest, set up by first year
Tye Barrett.
Later on, knotted up at 22, another kill by Guest gave the Saints a lead at 23-22. Regis would win the next point, but then a kill from sophomore
Eric Barcelos, and an error from the Pride allowed the Saints to steal momentum, and the second set.
In the third set, it was Emmanuel who grabbed the lead early on, as another kill from Barcelos gave the team a 5-3 lead. The set stayed close, as it was all tied at 14 when the Saints went on a mini 3-0 run to grab some control at 17-14. The home team was able to keep Regis at bay the rest of the set, winning by a score of 25-22.
The fourth set looked like the Pride's to lose, as they jumped out to a 10-6 lead. They would maintain that four point lead throughout much of the set, as they held it at 18-14. Another Barcelos kill would turn the tide, as the Saints grabbed five of the next six points to knot it up at 19, and the JYC crowd was loving it.
It was 22-22 when back-to-back kills from Emmanuel put them in front. Where Barcelos sealed the deal with the game-winning kill, as the team stole the fourth set, and the senior day victory.
Guest led the way with 18 kills, followed by Barcelos with 10. Barrett was the main facilitator for the Saints, racking up 34 assists.
