KEENE, N.H. - Saints sophomore
Emilia Ferraro scored 37 seconds into sudden victory overtime, as the women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season with a 13-12 overtime win over the Keene State Owls on Wednesday afternoon from the Owls Athletic Complex. The Saints move to 1-1 with the win, while the Owls drop down to 0-2.
Ferraro scored the game-winning tally thanks to a pass from senior
Avery Robillard, as the Saints earned the non-conference win on Wednesday. Emmanuel trailed by a pair in the final minutes but forced overtime thanks to a goal with 5:46 remaining by first-year
Delaney Johnston, followed by the game-tying goal by sophomore
Anna Nichols just two minutes later.
The visitors trailed by as many as four in the second half, but a 5-1 scoring run over a 10-minute stretch helped tie the game at 10-10. Ferraro scored a pair of goals in the run, as did senior
Madeline Wright. Sophomore
Rylie Hogan scored her first of the season as part of the Saints run.
Wright finished with a team-high four goals to go along with one assist. Ferraro added a hat trick and two assists for a five-point afternoon. Sophomore goalie
Keira Walsh made eight saves for the Saints and earned her first collegiate win in a Saints uniform, moving to 1-1 this season.
For the Owls,
Tess Brown scored a game-high six goals, while adding eight ground balls and six draw controls.
Lola Varricchione chipped in with two goals and two assists, matched with four caused turnovers.
The Saints return to play on Saturday, March 7, with their conference opening game against Elms at 3:15 p.m. Saturday's conference opener will be held at the UMass Amherst Indoor Bubble.
