Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Wright Shines as Women’s Lacrosse Sinks Sharks, 18-12

Boston - Women's Lacrosse (11-4, 10-1) ran away with yet another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win on Tuesday Night over the Rival Simmons Sharks (3-9, 3-7). Senior Madeline Wright led the way, tying her career-high with seven goals on the night, including four in the first frame of action. This effort from Wright is good for fourth-most goals by a single player in a game in program history.

The first period belonged to the Saints on Tuesday night, as just under two minutes in, Emmanuel was able to find the back of the net. Wright received the feed from sophomore Anna Nichols and capitalized, opening the scoring. The offensive clinic would continue, as the first five goals of the night belonged to the home team, with four of those belonging to Wright.

The Sharks would stay afloat in the second, as after a quick two goals 45 seconds apart, Emily Horn tallied the next three for Simmons, knotting the game at five and swinging all momentum. The 5-5 tie was broken by Wright, as she put the Saints back in front with her fifth of the night with just over five to play in the second, but it was quickly countered with a goal from the visitors.

The Saints were able to tack on two more before the half, gaining some distance as Junior Hannah Hoenshell tallied her second of the night with a free-position goal to give Emmanuel an 8-6 advantage when the teams went their separate ways for the halftime break.

Just 40 seconds into the second half, Madeline Wright continued her dominance. Taking a feed from Avery Robillard right in the middle of the Sharks defense, she fired one home, extending the lead to 9-6.

In the third period the Saints were able to comfortably extend their lead, as they scored four of the five total goals, taking a 12-7 lead into the fourth quarter, even though they were outshot by Simmons, 7-6 in the frame.

The fourth period was defined by the depth of the Saints stepping up. Six goals were scored in the frame by Emmanuel, from four different players. Nichols, Robillard, Emilia Ferraro and Sadie Sevigny all scored goals as the team was able to run away with the victory. The goal from Ferraro gave Emmanuel their biggest lead of the night at 16-7, and the squad cruised the rest of the way to their 18-12 victory.

Wright poured in seven goals, with Hoenshell and Nichols combining for six more, three apiece. Avery Robillard put together an excellent all-around game, with a goal, two assists, three ground balls and three turnovers.
