GREENWOOD, Ind. – Six members of the Emmanuel women's track and field program have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the CSC on Tuesday, June 23.
A group of rising seniors comprised of
Kason Huynh, Julia Kurthy, Amy Proulx, and
Madison Reilly, as well as rising juniors
Aida Davis and
Sofia Rowen, were all selected to represent Emmanuel on the Academic All-District® Team.
Nomination to the CSC Academic All-District® Team requires a combination of academic and athletic achievements to be selected. Academically, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Athletically, members of the Cross Country and Track and Field Academic All-District® Teams must hold a top-50 individual performance in their region in at least one event. Cross country runners must have a top-50 finish at the regional championships, while track and field participants must have at least one top-50 regional ranking in an individual event.
Despite the Saints having more than enough student-athletes to qualify, the CSC has a maximum nomination number of six selections to the Division III Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District® Team. For all the rising seniors, this is the second straight season they have been selected for this honor.
Huynh finished the season with six different top-50 regional performances between the indoor and outdoor seasons. The best of her performances came in the high jump, as Huynh recorded the 20th-place spot in both seasons in the region, clearing the bar at 1.55 meters indoors and 1.56 meters outdoors.
Kurthy earned her spot with a pair of long-distance, top-50 performances, one from each season. Her 49th-place spot in the 5000-meter indoor run and 34th-place position in the 3000-meter steeplechase qualified her for placement on the Academic All-District® Team.
Proulx used her last performance of the outdoor season in the pole vault to get her spot back on the CSC Academic All-District® Team. In the conference championship in the pole vault, Proulx cleared the bar at 1.85 meters, placing her 49
th in the region.
Reilly used another strong season of throwing to earn a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® Team. In the outdoor season, a hammer throw of 38.60 meters placed her 33
rd in the region to claim a spot on the academic squad.
Davis flourished in the 800 meters this season, finishing in the top 50 in the region in both the indoor and outdoor campaigns. Her 2:24.49 in the indoor season was 36
th in the region, while the 2:25.78 in the outdoor season was 48
th among the region's student-athletes.
Rowen rounds out the Saints selections as her 400-meter dash in the indoor season netted her 48
th place in the region, with a time of 1:02.49.
Unlike in past years, the nomination to the Academic All-District® team does not necessarily move a student-athlete into consideration for the Academic All-American® ballot. A committee, comprised of Academic All-American® Core Members and members from the CSC will determine which athletes move to the All-American ballot.
Once the ballot is released, CSC members have until June 30 to vote for Academic All-Americans®. The CSC will announce the Academic All-American® Teams on Wednesday, July 15.
