Women's Soccer Starts Campaign With Loss at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. - The Emmanuel Saints women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the William Smith Herons on Tuesday afternoon at Cozzens Field on Opening Day for both programs.

The Herons were credited with 18 shots on target on the afternoon, as Saints junior goalie Teigan Robie turned away 14 of them in the losing effort. William Smith controlled possession throughout the 90 minutes, ending Tuesday's home opener with 30 total shot attempts.

The Herons broke through in the 39th minute when Ameya Moncrieffe buried an unassisted goal to make it 1-0 heading toward halftime.

Emmanuel couldn't find an answer in the second half, as Rachel Lee doubled the lead just four minutes in with her first of the year. Kristin Middaugh added a goal in the 67th minute, followed by Moncrieffe capping off her two-goal day in the 71st minute, assisted by Ella Wirth.

Saints junior Cameryn Hickey and first-year Mia Pupino each registered a shot, while sophomore Abby Chambers led the team with two attempts. Pupino's shot late in the second half forced the only save from William Smith and reserve keeper Liz Feeney.

Robie's 14 saves nearly doubled her career-high for saves in a match, which previously sat at eight saves in her first season with the Saints in 2024. Emmanuel, now 0-1-0 on the season, will look to regroup and score its first win of the year, heading to Hartford on Sunday, Sept. 6, for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Hawks.
