BRIGHTON, Mass. — Emmanuel women's soccer put together a complete performance Tuesday night, cruising past Simmons 4-0 at Daly Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, improving to 2-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.
The Saints controlled the game from the opening whistle, out-shooting the Sharks 24-8 and forcing Simmons goalkeeper
Lauren Sanchez into 11 saves. Emmanuel's pressure paid off in the 15th minute when sophomore
Grace Foster buried her team-leading third goal of the season to open the scoring.
The Saints delivered back-to-back goals in a dizzying two-minute span late in the first half. Sophomore
Carla Andreu Panighi struck in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0, and just a minute later, junior
Avery Morin doubled the damage with another Saints tally, putting Emmanuel up 3-0 heading into the break.
Sophomore
Abby Chambers capped the scoring in the 73rd minute, converting unassisted to make it 4-0 and put the game out of reach.
Junior goalkeeper
Teigan Robie recorded her second straight clean sheet, turning away all four shots on goal she faced to preserve the shutout and pick up the win.
With the victory, Emmanuel continues its strong start to conference play, while Simmons falls to 0-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in league action. The Saints will look to build on this momentum as they return on Saturday, Sept. 19, with a conference match at Elms, set for 2:00 p.m.
