Late Rally by Men's Soccer Falls Just Short in 3-2 Loss at Regis

WESTON, Mass. — Despite a spirited second-half surge, the Emmanuel men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Regis College on Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The loss drops the Saints to 1-4-2 (0-2-1 GNAC) as Regis improved to 3-1-2 (2-0-0).

Regis controlled the opening 45 minutes, jumping ahead early when Santy Pena Ganem opened the scoring in the eighth minute. The Pride doubled their lead five minutes later on a goal from Nolan McMahon, set up by Cade Bretton. Pena Ganem struck again in the 29th minute to complete a first-half brace and put Regis up 3-0 heading into the break.

Emmanuel first-year goalkeeper David Derk kept the Saints within striking distance, turning away five shots on the day despite facing a heavy workload against a Regis attack that finished with 14 shots.

The Saints found their footing after halftime. In the 58th minute, first-year Nathaniel Vera converted from close range to cut the deficit to 3-1. Emmanuel continued to press, and in the 77th minute fellow first-year Louie Miller made it a one-goal game, burying a feed from Luis Pimentel.

The late push fell just short, as the final attempts in the last minute by the Saints were blocked or shot just wide.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23, heading out of conference play to face Suffolk at 7:00 p.m.
