BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team lost to Keene State, 3-0 on Thursday night at the Jean Yawkey Center in Boston, Mass.

Emmanuel dropped to 7-10 while Keene State improved to 12-9.

The two teams matched up evenly for the opening set with the score tied at 3-3 early on. Junior Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) notched the first ace of the match not long afterwards to push the score to 6-6 and, not long afterwards, a strong block by sophomore Rachel Swiezynski (Exeter, N.H.) pushed the match to 14-14 in the first frame. The Owls stormed through, however, and managed to take the first match, 25-19.

Keene State found the edge early with an 8-5 lead to start the second set. Junior Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.) helped the visitors stay in the lead while on serve, eventually allowing the Owls to go up 12-6 before the Saints called their first timeout of the frame. Saints senior Megan Clary (Cumberland, R.I.) grabbed a few strong serves for the Saints to help the team move to within six points, with the score now 16-10. Emmanuel was unable to hold off the pressure and the Owls took the second set, 25-13.

The Saints and the Owls stayed close together to start the third set with Emmanuel earning a fast, 6-5 edge. Sophomore Samantha Andazola (Queen Creek, Ariz.) blasted a strong kill cross-court that the Owl defender could not handle, and the Saints found themselves up 10-8. Junior Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) proved to be a strong figure in front, blasting kills and blocking shots repeatedly as Emmanuel moved its third set lead to 17-14. Keene State continued to play strong, however, and managed to tie the score at 19-19 not long after. The Saints clawed back into the lead minutes later, taking a 21-20 edge into a timeout. One final kill for the Owls gave them a 25-23 third set win and a victory in the match.

The Saints were led by Stanton's seven kills and Olsen's 21 assists for the day. Sophomore Yun-Ting Lee (Cambridge, Mass.) added 24 digs to the stat sheet and Olsen and Andazola tallied an ace each.

Keene State was led by junior Bridget O'Bryant's (Marrimack, N.H.) 12 kills, senior Jamie Levine's (Medfield, Mass.) 21 digs and junior Laurie Whalen's 31 assists.

The Saints will enter the Crabtree Classic tournament this weekend where they will meet Worcester State College tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.
