The Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team opened its first home match in program history with a 15-4 loss to Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon on Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The loss drops the Saints to 0-2 on the young season while the Anchorwomen improved to 1-0 in their first game of 2011.

Rhode Island College opened the game with strong play in the attacking end, taking a 4-0 lead within the first eight minutes of the game. Two goals from junior Molly Voyer (Lincoln, R.I.) and a couple of assists from sophomore Courtney McKiernan (Hope, R.I.) to give the visitors an edge early in the contest.

The Saints responded seconds later by taking a draw all the way down the field and earning a free position shot in front of the net. Junior Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) netted her fifth goal of the season and Emmanuel had found the back of the net on Roberto Clemente Field for the first time in team history.

After three more RIC scores, including another by Voyer, Emmanuel grabbed its second tally of the game with sophomore Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) scoring off an assist from sophomore Hannah Fox (Biddeford, Maine). That would be all the scoring for the first half, and the Anchorwomen would take a 9-4 lead into the halftime.

Once again, RIC started the half off well, adding three more goals with freshman Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, R.I.) tallying her second of the contest. Leahy helped give the Saints life with her second goal at 22:51 of the half and Carr would once again score for Emmanuel to give her a team-high six goals in two games for the Saints.

Two late scores by sophomore Ashley Appel (Foxboro, Mass.) gave RIC a 15-4 victory.

Emmanuel freshman keeper Hillary Dandurant made 12 saves, helping keep her team in the game with strong play in the crease. RIC freshman goalie Taryn Carbone (Cranston, R.I.) made three saves for the Anchorwomen in the win.

The Saints will remain at home this week to host Wheelock College this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
