VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS TRI-MATCH WITH A PAIR OF 3-0 WINS

Paxton, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team used strong hitting performances by seniors Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.), Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) and Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) to sweep a tri-match Friday afternoon on the campus of Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass. The Saints were able to down the hosts, 3-0, in the opening match of the day before sweeping the Blue Jays, 3-0. With the victory the Saints improve to 7-11 on the year and 3-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The loss drops the AMCATS to 3-10 and 0-5 in GNAC play while St. Joes falls to 4-10 and 0-3.

The Saints came out strong against Anna Maria, capturing the first set by a score of 25-13. Despite a sloppy second set that saw several hitting errors, Emmanuel pushed ahead in the match by taking the second set, 25-16. The Saints would give the host AMCATS no chance to make it a game, cruising in the third set, 25-12. Olsen led the way with a match-high 12 kills while also dishing out a match-high 12 assists. Stanton chipped in with eight kills while Ross was just one behind with seven kills. Junior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Cambridge, Mass.) matched Ross with 13 digs, a match-high.

Junior outside hitter Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) finished the match with a team-high eight kills for the AMCATS.

In the second contest of the evening, Emmanuel used its momentum to jump all over the Blue Jays in the opening set with an emphatic 25-8 win. St. Joseph College showed some signs of life in the second set before the Saints used a nice run to close out the game, 25-14 before cruising to the sweep with a 25-12 win in the third set to take the match, 3-0. Ross led the way with a match-high 11 kills while Olsen was also in double-figures with a triple-double of 10 kills, 11 digs and 15 assists. Stanton pitched in six kills in the win.

Freshman setter Jessica Patrizi (Beacon Fall, Conn.) finished the match with a team-high eight assists and five kills for the Blue Jays.

The Saints will return to action tomorrow for another doubleheader when they face off against the University of Maine - Fort Kent at 2:00 PM before taking on Framingham State at 4:00 PM in Framingham, Mass.
