Lasell opened the contest with three goals in the first five minutes, but Emmanuel's Wootten kept the Saints close with a pair of goals a minute apart to make the score 3-2 with 21:28 remaining in the opening half. The two teams traded goals over the next several minutes with Lasell's Brecher putting the Lasers ahead 7-5 with 7:42 left in the first half.

Consecutive goals for Emmanuel by Leahy and Wootten drew the visitors even at 7-7 with just under five minutes before the half.  However, the Lasers' Slattery sent her side into the half with the 8-7 lead after a goal with 1:16 on the clock.
