THE LEAD – After a slow start by the Saints had them trailing 5-3, Emmanuel's women's lacrosse team found a new gear, scoring 18 of the last 19 goals in Tuesday night's 21-6 win over Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The opening quarter started as a battle for momentum between the Saints and Falcons, with both teams scoring three times. Saints junior Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine) scored a pair in the opening quarter, matched by Falcons senior Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.), as the sides headed for the second quarter at 3-3.
  • The Falcons grabbed control in the opening minutes of the second quarter on goals by senior Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) and junior Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.), giving AMC a 5-3 lead. But the next eight goals of the quarter belonged to the Saints, as they took command of the game in the final 10 minutes of the half.
  • Saints first-year Anna Drillen (Readfield, Maine) scored a hat trick in the second quarter while five other Saints added goals, including the third of the night for Steele, as EC took an 11-5 lead into halftime.
  • Raposo started the scoring after halftime with her third of the evening to pull the Falcons within five at 11-6, but like the second quarter, Emmanuel's offense owned the rest of the third, scoring the next six, to hold a 17-6 edge after three quarters. EC would add four more in the final quarter, on their way to a 21- 6 victory.
