BOSTON - For the final time in the Jean Yawkey Center this season, Emmanuel men's wrestling finished off its home slate of matches in their inaugural season, falling to the University of Bridgeport Knights, 35-22, on Thursday night on Yosinoff Court. In three home duals this season, the Saints finished 1-2, with the victory coming in front of a packed gymnasium in Emmanuel's first-ever home contest, in a 47-9 win against Keystone.
After falling behind 6-0 after the first bout at 125, the Saints rebounded at 133, with first-year
Zachary Brzoska scoring an 11-2 major decision victory. Three takedowns by the Saints rookie made the difference in the match, as the win cut the dual deficit to 6-4.
From there, Bridgeport seized momentum in the next three matches, as a tech fall at 141, and a pair of pins at 149 and 157, launched the Knight ahead 23-4.
Junior
Justin Hood continued his impressive first season with the Saints at 165, earning a pinfall win at 1:37, inching the Saints back to a 23-10 deficit.Â
Despite a pair of forfeit wins for the Saints at 184 and 197, the Knights'Â pinfalls at 174 and 285 proved critical in Thursday's dual, as Bridgeport clinched a 35-22 victory over Emmanuel.
The Saints are back in action next Wednesday, Feb. 11, as they head to Plymouth State for a dual against the Panthers.
