BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Connor Maguire (Old Lyme, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the GNAC Office for matches played between September 19-26. This marks the first time an EC golfer has earned GNAC Golfer of the Week honors since Nicholas Cyrus '11 earned the honor in back-to-back weeks in September of 2010.
Maguire turned in a round of 6-over (76), claiming co-medalist honors last Tuesday afternoon in the Emmanuel Invitational played at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. A bogey on the difficult third hole and a bogey on the ninth had Maguire turning in 2-over-par. Maguire's back nine contained five pars and four bogeys, to turn in a card of 76. Playing out of the No. 2 spot, the junior's card finished with six bogeys matched with a dozen pars.
The Connecticut native is the first player to claim medalist honors for Emmanuel since Jack Scavone claimed a share of first place at the Mitchell Tri-Match at Shennecossett Golf Course on Oct. 12, 2016.
Through four rounds this season, Maguire has posted four scores averaging out to an 81 per round, a team low.
Over his collegiate career, his average score is just north of 85 but he's lowered his scoring average by more than nine strokes from his sophomore to junior season.
The Saints return to action this weekend at the Elms College Blazer Invitational. The two-day event begins at Ledges Golf Course in South Hadley, Mass. on Saturday, October 1 followed by a second round at Cold Spring Country Club on Sunday, October 2.
