Men's Golf Sits Five Shots Back of Lead at GNAC Championship After Opening Day 321

HAMDEN, Conn. - Emmanuel men's golf posted its best start in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship event on Tuesday, in terms of positioning on the leaderboard, as a team score of 321 has the Saints sitting in second place after 18 holes, just five shots back of the host team of Albertus Magnus, heading into the final round on Wednesday from New Haven Country Club.

With the Saints sitting in second place, this marks the second consecutive year that Emmanuel will be in the final groups for the second round. The 2024 and 2025 seasons are the only two in which Emmanuel has been in the final groupings on Day 2.

The Saints charge was led by first-year Sean Fenton, who carded a 6-over-par round of 76, placing him third individually. After a front side of 37, Fenton went on to shoot 39 on the back nine, capping his round with a birdie on 18 to shoot 76. Junior Ryan Brunet sits in T6 with his 8-over, 78. Brunet shot matching 39's on the front and back, on his way to a tie for sixth.

Sophomore Andrew Lavoie is in a tie for 12th with his day of 83, while first-year Jack Ouellette was one shot more, shooting a round of 84, to be in a tie for 16th. Senior Diego Serra finished the opening 18 with a round of 16-over, 86, good for T22.

Albertus leads the way after a team score of 316 has them five shots ahead of the Saints. Counting rounds of 73, 77, 81, and 85 have the Falcons out front. New England College and Norwich are tied for third and still in the hunt for the title. The Pilgrims and Cadets each shot 322 on Tuesday. Cadets senior Cooper Bertrand made five birdies in the opening 18 holes, shooting a 1-over-par, 71, giving him a two-shot lead in the individual championship.

The final round of the GNAC Men's Golf Championship begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., with the members of Mitchell, Dean, Elms, and Saint Joseph's College going out first. The tee times for the top four teams begin at 9:20 a.m. and run through 10:00 a.m. The winner of the GNAC Championship will secure the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament in the Spring of 2026.
