CONCORD, N.H. – On a cold and rainy Monday morning, Emmanuel Saints men's golf are set up for their best team finish in program history at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, hosted at Concord Country Club, sitting in a tie for third, after combining to shoot 337 on Day 1.
In the individual race for medalist honors, Saints senior
Ian Reynolds turned in an 8-over-par round of 78, good for a T5 spot, trailing by two shots to New England's
Timothy Carlson.
The Saints best finish in team history is fourth place, coming on two occasions and in consecutive years in 2020 and 2021. The team score of 339 is the 10
th-lowest score the program has shot in a conference championship in program history.
Reynolds opened the day with six straight pars before a 5-over-par stretch in the next five holes moved him down the leaderboard. Another bogey stretch through the middle of the back nine had Reynolds at 8-over, before a birdie on 16 and bogey on 18, led to his total of 78.
Sophomore
Ryan Brunet and first-year
Andrew Lavoie sit inside the top-20 after scores of 84 and 85, respectively. Three double bogeys in Brunet's round and two doubles for Lavoie moved their scores into the mid-80s on a wet and difficult course.
Junior
Diego Serra was the final counting score for the Saints, as a back nine of 48, matched with a front side 42 for the No. 5 player resulted in a final score of 90 and 31
st place. Senior
Gianni Ridolfi carded a round of 92 and sits in 34
th position.
The pre-tournament favorites and host school, New England College, hold an eight-shot lead for the team title over Saint Joseph's of Maine as the Pilgrims shot 318 compared to the Monks total of 326. Norwich is tied with the Saints in third place, matching the Emmanuel score of 337. The team champions will earn the GNACs automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament in 2025.
For the Pilgrims, Carlson made three birdies on the way to his leading round of 76.
Ryan Waring is just a shot back of his teammate, after shooting 77 in Round 1.
Tee times for Day 2 start at 8:30 a.m. with Albertus Magnus, Dean, Elms, and Mitchell taking the lead. The top four teams will start their morning at 9:20 a.m., starting with the group of Reynolds, Carlson, Norwich's
Cooper Bertrand and Saint Joseph's
Drew Mathieu.
