CONCORD, N.H. – Emmanuel Saints Men's Golf finished off their fall schedule at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, combining to shoot a final round of 338, for a two-day total of 675, to finish fifth at the Conference Championship at Concord Country Club.
The competition didn't get any easier for the players at Concord Country Club, as they traded Monday's rain and cold for Tuesday's gusty winds and soft conditions.
Emmanuel senior
Ian Reynolds led the Saints with rounds of 78 and 81, shooting 19-over-par during the Championship, to finish in seventh place and lock up a GNAC All-Conference Second Team award.
Reynolds began the day two shots back of the lead and quickly erased the deficit after making par on the first two holes. The senior captain would go out in 3-over, 37, trailing by two at the turn.
After excellent par saves on 10 and 11, converting a sand save on 10 and a 3-foot par putt on 11, Reynolds held his position, within two shots, after another par on 12. The 13
th and 14
th would prove costly as a double bogey on 13 and a triple bogey on 14 moved Reynolds down the leaderboard.
Reynolds made three more bogeys coming to the house, playing the back in 8-over, 44, to shoot an 11-over-par 81, combing for a two-day total of +19.
First-year
Andrew Lavoie finished in a tie for 18
th place shooting a two-day total of 29-over. Sophomore
Ryan Brunet followed with a tie for 21
st, firing two shots more than Lavoie, at 31-over.
In the team competition, the Saints started the day in a tie for third with Norwich, but with the Cadets combining to shoot 331 and Albertus Magnus combining for a final round 325, Emmanuel would have to settle for fifth place at 675.
The host school and pre-tournament favorites, New England College, defended their 2023 GNAC Championship, claiming the victory and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after rounds of 318 and 302 gave them a total of 620 and a 26-shot win over second place Saint Joseph's of Maine.
The Pilgrims success came with four of their five players making the All-Conference Teams after 36 holes. NEC's
Bryce Sturm and
Vesse-Wincent Lampen claimed Second Team honors while a 1-2 finish for
Ryan Waring and
Timothy Carlson resulted in First Team nods.
Waring swept the individual major awards, winning the 2024 GNAC Championship to be the Conference's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. The first-year Pilgrim made 16 pars in the final round, including all pars on the back nine, shooting a final round 72, for a two-day total of 9-over-par, to win by one over Carlson.
Reynolds took home more recognitions after being named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. The Saints program was also recognized by the conference for its outstanding sportsmanship, winning the Institutional Sportsmanship honors after the event.
Representing the GNAC at the NCAA Tournament, New England College will take on Midvale Country Club and Irondequoit Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. on May 20-23, 2025.
