Box Score PAXTON, Mass. - A 90th-minute game-winning penalty kick scored by Saints junior Joe Anderson helped the Emmanuel Saints to a crucial 2-1 victory over the Anna Maria AMCATS on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from Caparso Field.
The Saints improve to 6-4-2 (5-2-2 GNAC) with the victory, giving them 17 points in the GNAC standings. The game-winner with 50 seconds remaining came as the Saints pressure caused a foul in the penalty area. A cross from the right-side swung into the box as first-year Jacob Beck drew the foul, setting up the PK. Anderson stepped to the spot, already 1-for-1 on the season from the dot, and found the bottom left corner, securing three points for Emmanuel.
Anna Maria managed to find one final chance before the horn, but a header with 12 seconds remaining went floating over the crossbar, as the match ended 2-1.
The AMCATS scored the opening goal, coming in the 31st minute with first-year Kyle Brocker giving the home side a 1-0 lead. That advantage lasted just 10 minutes as a 41st-minute tally by Saints junior Pierre-Paul Labossiere evened the score at 1-1.
Anderson's tally was his third of the season, as he matches two others on the Saints with three goals this season. Labossiere netted his team-leading four goal to square the match before halftime. Junior goalie Maddox Pierce made two stops for the Saints and improves to 3-3-1 with the victory.
Brocker's opening goal of the game was his fourth of the season, most among the rookies for the AMCATS. Graduate goalie Valter Santiago made seven saves, falling to 7-3-0 with the loss.
The Saints have nearly a week off before returning on Tuesday, Oct. 15, as they welcome the University of Saint Joseph to Clemente Field for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC clash. The AMCATS travel to the University of Saint Joseph for a Saturday, Oct. 12 kickoff at noon.
