WINTHROP, Mass. – After producing the best finish as a cross country program since 2018, Saints junior
Sydney Gonzalez and sophomore
Kendall Newton were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Second Team on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the GNAC Office.
Along with the pair of GNAC Second Teamers, Emmanuel head coach
Dion Gardner-Crichlow was recognized as the GNAC Women's Cross Country Head Coach of the Year.
Gonzalez scored a top 10 finish last weekend at the GNAC Championship, hosted at Norwich, after running the 6K Championship in a time of 25:40.9, to set a season-best time for a 6K. Newton finished a few spots behind, coming in 12
th place with her own season-best 6K time of 26:18.9.
The GNAC All-Conference selections for cross country are based on finishing position at the GNAC Championship. Runners who finish from first to seventh place are named to the First Team while runner who place from eighth to 14
th earn a spot on the Second Team.
The Saints were voted to place fourth in the GNAC Women's Cross Country Championship according to the Pre-Championship poll, but Gardner-Crichlow got the best out of her program, helping coach the team to their best finish in six seasons.
In her second season with cross country and track & field, Gardner-Crichlow has claimed a Coach of the Year honors twice between her programs. She was the 2024 Coach of the Year for the Women's Indoor Team before claiming the 2024 Cross Country honor last Saturday.
The Saints finish up their campaign with the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 16, hosted at Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H.
