HINGHAM, Mass. – Opening their 2024 schedule, the Emmanuel Saints men's golf program took home the team victory on Thursday afternoon, combining to shoot 334, besting second place Mitchell by a dozen shots, at the Saints Invitational at South Shore Country Club.
It's the Saints first team victory since October 20, 2023, after they claimed the win at the Emmanuel Invitational. The victory in the opening tournament is the first time in program history the Saints have won their season debut.
Sophomore
Ryan Brunet placed second individually, shooting a 7-over-par round of 79. Senior
Ian Reynolds overcame a slow start to finish T3, after a round of 9-over-par, 81. First-year
Andrew Lavoie impressed in his first career collegiate event with a sixth-place finish and round of 82. The final counting score of the day belonged to first-year
Christian Galatis, whose round of 92 put him in a tie for 10
th.
Mitchell senior
Shamus McLean claimed medalist honors in the individual portion of the invitational, making five birdies to go with just one bogey, on the way to a round of 4-under, 68, and an 11-shot win.
Mitchell finished at 346 as a team, good for second place, while Dean shot 361, and Lesley finished at 365, finishing third and fourth, respectively.
The opening match of the season marks Reynolds's 37
th career appearance for the Saints, matching the program record set by Matteo Pocobene ('16) over his four-year career.
Reynolds will look to set the record and lead the Saints in their next event, hosting the EC Invite on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Brookline Golf Course. The event starts at noon with Rhode Island College, Lesley, and New England College attending the event.
