Saints Golf Shoots 309 Setting Program Record for Lowest Team Event Score

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The early-season program records continue to fall for Emmanuel men's golf after their performance at the EC Invite on Wednesday afternoon at Brookline Golf Course resulted in a team score of 309 (+29), setting a program record for lowest team score, not relative to par, in an event in program history.

All four counting scores for the Saints were sub-80, marking the first time in team history that four scores under 80 counted in the Emmanuel team total. Despite the record-setting performance, New England College walked away from Brookline Golf Course with the win, shooting 301 (+21) as a squad.

Wednesday's team record was led by senior Ian Reynolds and sophomore Ryan Brunet, who each posted 6-over rounds of 76, good T4. The pair were both 1-under in the early stages, but matching front-and-back nines of 37-39, led to the final score of 76. Brunet's 76 sets a career collegiate best, breaking his previous low by two shots.

Reynolds's appearance in the event marked his 38th career round for Emmanuel, setting a new career record for most rounds played in team history.

First-year Andrew Lavoie matched the most birdies among the 20 competitors, but his round of 8-over-par, 78, placed him eighth on the day. In just his second event, Lavoie sets his career collegiate low, as he prepares to play his home course in the Saints next event.

Senior Gianni Ridolfi managed not just a collegiate career-best, but a new personal best, breaking 80 for the first time in his golfing career, following a 9-over, 79, good for T9. Ridolfi used a team-high 11 pars in the process of his first time shooting sub-80.

Despite not counting in the team score, junior Diego Serra impressed with a round of 82, leaving him at T12 on the day. Serra recovered from a tough start to shoot 82 after opening his round with a triple bogey.

New England College's Graham Hassan and Rhode Island College's Jasper Bruin Slot split medalist honors with rounds of 2-over-par, 72. Hassan used a closing stretch of 11 pars in 12 holes to shoot 72 while Bruin Slot recovered from a front side 39 by shooting 2-under, 33, on the back, to card his 72.

Emmanuel's 309 total bests the old team record by five shots, breaking a near-12-year-old mark set at the Southern Maine Fall Classic on Oct. 8, 2012

The Saints are off for a week before traveling to Valley Country Club in Warwick, R.I., for the Rhode Island College Fall Invitational on Wednesday, Sept. 25, starting at 11:00 a.m.
