Golf Fires 320, Places Fourth at Friday's Keene State Invitational

KEENE, N.H. – Saints men's golf was back on the course Friday morning, taking part in the Keene State Fall Invitational for the first time. Emmanuel posted their fifth-best team round in program history, shooting 320 (+32), good for T4 as a team at Keene Country Club.

Sophomore Ryan Brunet and first-year Andrew Lavoie led the Saints on the day, both carding rounds 77 (+5), good for T10. Brunet shot 38 on the front before three bogeys on the back nine led to his 77. Lavoie, who started on the 12th hole in the shotgun start tournament, was 3-under at one point, before dropping back to his 77.

Senior Ian Reynolds finished four shots back of his teammates, shooting 9-over-par, 81, to finish 21st. Senior Gianni Ridolfi and junior Diego Serra both finished at 13-over-par with rounds of 85, tying for 29th.

Among the four Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) teams competing on Friday, the Saints finished third in the group with a team total of 320. Norwich finished in second place overall with a team score of 307 while New England College shattered a team record, winning the event with a 292 (+4).

Pilgrims junior Graham Hassan and Norwich sophomore Cooper Bertrand both carded rounds of 2-under-par, 70. Bertrand went on to claim medalist in a sudden-victory playoff, birding the first hole for the win. Hassan fired matching 35s on the front and back nines while Bertrand made six birdies in regulation, most of any competitor, on his way to shooting 70.

After New England and Norwich came Gordon College, with a score of 309, placing third in the event. Western Connecticut State matched the Saints with a score of 320, rounding out the top-five teams.

The Saints take nearly two weeks off from competition before returning to South Shore Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 9, hosting the Emmanuel Invitational at 1:00 p.m. with Mitchell, Norwich, and New England College, scheduled to attend.

The GNAC Championship follows on Oct. 14 and 15, hosted by New England College at Concord Country Club.
