WINTHROP, Mass. – Four Emmanuel softball players collected recognition from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Tuesday after being named to the GNAC All-Conference Teams, as announced by the GNAC Office this afternoon.
Senior
Taylor Chelak found a spot on the All-Conference First Team in the outfield, while sophomore
Francesca Pizzarella was voted to the All-Conference Second Team as a utility player. Seniors
Madison Marks and
Amanda Penney rounded out the All-Conference selections for the Saints, earning Third Team spots at pitcher and second base, respectively.
Chelak finishes her Saints run as a three-time GNAC First Team selection in the outfield, earning First Team honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior. An everyday center fielder for Emmanuel, Chelak led the Saints with a .383 average, 49 hits, 15 doubles, and tied for the team-high in RBI with 25.
Pizzarella, a transfer from Salve Regina, played all around the diamond in her first season as a Saint, splitting time at first base, third base, and catcher, in earning her GNAC Second Team Utility Player honor. Pizzarella led the team with 27 runs scored, was second in doubles with 12, and third in hits with 38.
Marks adds a GNAC Third Team selection to her career after being named to the Second Team as a junior. A pitcher and designed player for the Saints, Marks made her impact in conference, making 12 appearances, finishing 7-2 with a 2.69 ERA against GNAC opponents, to go along with 51 strikeouts in 57.1 innings. Marks batted .301 and was fourth among GNAC players with five home runs this season.
Penney wraps up her Saints career with her first nomination to the All-Conference Team, picking up a Third Team honor this season. Playing nearly every inning at second base for the Saints this season, Penney batted a career-high .295 with 23 hits in her senior season.
