GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five Emmanuel Softball student-athletes have been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Softball Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the CSC on Tuesday. Class of 2025 graduates Taylor Chelak, Madison Marks, and Amanda Penney are joined by rising juniors Francesca Pizzarella and Alexis Martineau on this year's Academic All-District® representatives from the Saints.
Marks becomes a three-time recipient of the honors while Penney makes her second appearance on the CSC Academic All-District® Team. Chelak, Pizzarella, and Martineau all make their first CSC Academic All-District® Team in 2025.
Nomination to the CSC Academic All-District® Team requires a combination of academic and athletic achievements to be selected. Academically, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Athletically, those selected must start in 66 percent of their team's games or participate in 90 percent of a team's contests. For pitchers, the CSC requires 17 appearances or 35 innings pitched.
Chelak earns her first nomination to the CSC Academic All-District® Team following another outstanding season in center field. She was named to the All-Conference First Team for a third straight season and finished the year with a team-high .383 average, while also leading the team with 49 hits and 15 doubles.
Marks easily exceeded the pitching requirements to notch her third CSC Academic All-District® Team selection. The senior ace made 27 appearances in 131.2 innings, finishing with a 3.42 ERA, to go along with 114 strikeouts. At the plate, Marks added a .301 average with a team-best five home runs on her way to an All-Conference Third Team selection.
Penney's second nod to the CSC Academic All-District® Team comes on the heels of an All-Conference Third Team nomination at second base this season. Penney batted .295 in 37 games for the Saints this year. Her 22 walks led the Saints in 2025 as did her on-base percentage of .451.
Pizzarella is the fourth of this year's group to be a CSC Academic All-District® Team member and earn a spot on the All-Conference team, after securing a Second Team nomination as a utility. Pizzarella batted .319 in her first season with the Saints after transferring to Emmanuel last fall. She led the Saints with 27 runs scored and was one of three players with an OPS of at least .900.
Martineau scores a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® Team in her first season of eligibility after making 33 appearances, including 27 starts for the Saints. She batted .244 as a sophomore and was perfect in stolen base attempts this season.
Unlike in past years, the nomination to the Academic All-District® team does not necessarily move a student-athlete into consideration for the Academic All-American® ballot. A committee, comprised of Academic All-American® Core Members and members from the CSC will determine which athletes move to the All-American ballot.
Once the ballot is released, CSC members have until June 3 to vote for Academic All-Americans®. The CSC will announce the Academic All-American® First, Second, and Third Teams on Tuesday, June 17.
