WARWICK, R.I. – The Emmanuel men's golf program's run of second-place team finishes continued on Tuesday afternoon, as their program-record setting score of 306 earned them runner-up at the Rhode Island College Fall Invitational, hosted at Valley Country Club.
Saints junior Ryan Brunet and sophomore Andrew Lavoie both earned top-five finishes with their best rounds of the season. Brunet carded a 3-over round of 74, good for a tie for third, while Lavoie's round of 4-over, 75, placed him in a tie for fifth.
Rookies Jack Ouellette and Sean Fenton added their best career collegiate rounds on Tuesday, helping secure the program-record score. Ouellette shot 5-over, 77, on his way to a tie for ninth. Fenton was a few shots back, carding a round of 80, for a spot at T15.
The Saints score of 306 beats the previous program record by three shots, recorded last season at one of the program's home courses, Brookline Golf Course. The previous low score in team history for an event shot at a road event was 314 on October 8, 2012, at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic.
Despite the record-setting day, the hosts of Rhode Island College took home the team win, shooting a stellar 298 on the day. All four counting scores for the Anchormen were individually inside the top-10 and included scores of 71, 74, 76, and 77. RIC senior Jasper Bruins Slot finished as the medalist with a 1-under round of 71.
The Saints take nearly two weeks away from competition, returning next month, on Thursday, October 2, for the EC Invite, hosted at South Shore Country Club.
