Emmanuel drops first GNAC match to St. Joes (CT), 15-6

Box Score Boston- In a Saturday matinee, the Saints could not stop the offensive attack of the Blue Jays (5-1, 3-0) as they dropped their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match of the year. The Saints (2-3, 2-1) were outshot 45-21 in the match, as their defense could not withstand the constant attack on the net.

The Blue Jays did not waste any time as the matinee got underway at Roberto Clemente field, finding the back of the net just under two minutes into the game as Dominic Oakes put St Joes up 1-0. After a few minutes of more back and forth play, the Blue Jays were able to tack on another one. After a save from sophomore Colby Enos, the Jays regained control and Nick Pestrichello was able to sneak a shot by, making the score 2-0 with under eight minutes to play.

St Joes remained in control the remainder of the first period, tacking on yet another goal as the Saints offense struggled to get much going. The home team faced a 3-0 deficit going into the second.

After a penalty on senior Cole Cloney late in the second period, the Jays were able to strike again, as Oakes found the back of the net to make the score 6-1 with 5:44 to play. Then the tide finally turned, with 2:11 to play Ethan Madura fired one home, igniting the offense. Just 40 seconds later, senior Samuel Yan did the same, making it a 6-3 game. The Saints were chipping away at the lead, and it stayed a three point game going into the break.

After recording just four shots in the first frame to the Jays 11, it evened out more in the second, as the Saints recorded seven shots to the Blue Jays nine, leading to the even 3-3 score in the second frame.

As the third period got underway, St. Joes extended their lead to 7-3, but Emmanuel had a response. After a clear in their defensive zone, Gavin Hunt was able to dish it off to Junior Cooper Melhorn who did the rest, cutting the lead back to three at 7-4. As the third period wrapped up, the Saints were still trailing 9-5, with a lot of ground to make up.

In the fourth, Emmanuel just could not grab the momentum back, allowing three goals in the first six minutes to the Blue Jays, dropping their first conference game of the season by a final score of 15-6.
The Saints were led by Ethan Madura and Gavin Hunt, who tallied two goals a piece. Goaltender Gavin Enos recorded 15 saves on the day. St. Joes was led by Brenden Tedeschi, with four goals on the day.
