GREENWOOD, Ind. – Emmanuel senior
Emely Rodriguez, and sophomore's
Grace Garon,
Lauren Peers and
Sydney Taylor have all been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Softball Academic All-District Team, as announced by the CSC on May 26th.
Nomination to the CSC Academic All-District Team requires a combination of academic and athletic achievements to be selected. Academically, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Athletically, those selected must start in 66 percent of their team's games or participate in 90 percent of a team's contests. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
Rodriguez finishes her career with her first CSC Softball Academic All-District Team nod. The lone senior on the team played in 36 games and recorded career-highs across the board. The Lynn, Mass. native finished the year third on the team with 30 RBI's while batting .276 at the plate and notching 24 hits.
Garon makes her first CSC Academic All-District Team in her first year eligible. The Charlton, Mass. native started in all 40 games in her second season, asserting herself as one of the team's most dangerous hitters. Garon finished her second campaign batting .319 with 36 hits and 34 RBI's.
Peers scored her spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team in her first season of eligibility. The Franklin Square, N.Y. native managed to appear in 19 games, pitching in 59.1 innings. Peers improved her ERA to a 4.72 in her sophomore campaign while also striking out 31 batters for the Saints.
Taylor tallied her first CSC Academic All-District team in her sophomore season. The Euless, Texas native enjoyed a breakout second season, appearing in 38 games for the Saints. The power hitter finished her second season leading the team with four home runs, while also batting .324 at the dish with 34 total hits.
Unlike in past years, the nomination to the Academic All-District team does not necessarily move a student-athlete into consideration for the Academic All-American® ballot. A committee, composed of Academic All-American® Core Members and members from the CSC will determine which athletes move to the All-American ballot.
Once the ballot is released, CSC members have until June 2nd to vote for Academic All-Americans®. The CSC will announce the Academic All-American® First, Second, and Third Teams on Tuesday, June 16th.
