NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Saints opened the GNAC schedule on Saturday afternoon with a clinic vs Mitchell College, sweeping the hosts in straight sets. Emmanuel (3-2, 1-0) took the first two sets by a combined 26 points, and never looked back as they got back into the win column against the Mariners (2-1, 0-1).
 
Emmanuel came out of the gates fast, jumping out to a 6-2 lead after a loud kill from sophomore Danielle Burkett. The Mariners were able to bring the lead back down to three, but that would be the closest they got the rest of the set. The Saints ran away with a 25-13 win in the opening frame.
 
In the second set, an attack error from Letitia Bossou brought Mitchell within two at 10-8, but eight of the next nine rallies belonged to the road team. This gave Emmanuel the breathing room they needed, grabbing control of the second frame. The Saints took the set by a score of 25-11, posting an attack percentage of .323.
 
Mitchell was able to grab their first lead of the match in the third set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. That lead would hold until a series of errors from Mitchell surrendered the advantage, 13-10. Those three errors proved to be crucial as the lead would never change hands again, with Emmanuel posting a 25-19 win. The Saints posted a .219 attack percentage in the period, as the Mariners recorded six errors. 
 
Sophomore Ayla Evans posted her best performance of the season, with 12 kills. First year Delilah Davis tallied eight kills and two total blocks. First year setter Kennedy Horne also enjoyed a stellar performance, with 10 assists.

Emmanuel will look to stay in the win column on Wednesday when they travel to play Johnson & Wales. The first serve of this non-conference clash will be at 7:00 PM.
