KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Emmanuel College softball team dropped a pair of games Tuesday afternoon in the 2012 Rebel Games at Oren Brown Park. The Saints dropped a 12-3 decision to Husson College in game one before falling to Mount Union College, 8-3, in the second game of the afternoon. EC drops to 1-5 on the year while the wins help the HC Eagles improve to 1-2 and the MUC Raiders improve to 2-4.

In the first game, the Saints got off to a quick start with a run in the first inning as sophomore shortstop Julia Levins (Uxbridge, Mass.) led off the game by drawing a walk and came around to score on a two-out RBI single to left by senior catcher Kristen Landers (Worcester, Mass.).

Husson would respond with six runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 6-1 lead. Junior right fielder Courtney Hill (Calais, Maine) led off with a bunt single before stealing second and third and would score on an overthrow during her second theft on the base paths to even the score at 1-1. Senior right fielder Brianna Webster (Belfast, Maine) would draw a walk and come around to score on an RBI single to right field by senior first baseman Nicole Sargent (Sullivan, Maine) to make it 2-1 in favor of the Eagles. Freshman third baseman Victoria Overlock (Belfast, Maine) would follow it up with another RBI single up the middle to make it 3-1. Both Sargent and Overlock would make their way around the bases, eventually scoring on wild pitches to boost the Husson lead to 5-1. Junior shortstop Aimee Mortensen would score the Eagles sixth run of the inning, drawing a walk and then coming around to score on an RBI single to left by freshman second baseman Ashley Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) to give HC a comfy 6-1 advantage. All six runs the Eagles scored were unearned due to a pair of miscues early in the inning by the Saints.

In the bottom of the second inning, Sargent would make it a 7-1 game when she reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and came home on a wild pitch.

Emmanuel would get one back in the third as Levins led off the inning with a double down the left field line before moving over to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman Catherine Bergeron (Sandwich, Mass.) and scoring on a wild pitch to make it 7-2.

The Eagles would add to their lead in the bottom of the third with three more runs on four hits. Smith would get things started with a triple to the left field fence and come in on an RBI bunt single by Hill. An RBI single to the second base hole by Sargent plated hill to make it 9-2 and Husson would add another unearned run to make it 10-2.

The Saints would add an unearned run of their own to make it 10-3 as senior centerfield Chelset Guselli (Methuen, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and came around to score following a Husson error.

Smith would bump Husson's lead up to 12-3 with a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield in the fourth and then junior starting pitcher Kody Lyon (Dalton, N.H.) would make the score stand, recording the final three outs in the fifth to make it a 12-3 final.

For the Eagles, Smith finished the game going 3-3 with three RBI and a run scored while Hill was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Emmanuel was paced by Levin's 2-2 outing at the plate to go along with her two runs scored.

Lyon notched the win hurling five innings of four hit ball, allowing the three runs (two earned) with four strike outs. Junior Kelly Lloid (Issaquah, Wash.) was the tough luck loser for the Saints, allowed five unearned runs in the first inning, recording just one out before getting the hook.

In game two action, Mount Union would build up an 8-0 lead and hold on for the 8-3 victory. The Raiders plated a run in the first inning as junior center fielder Kristen Gromes (Navarre, Ohio) led off the game with a walk and came around to score on a RBI sacrifice by freshman catcher Hannah Kopack (Westlake, Ohio).

The Raiders would continue to build their lead in the second, adding four more runs to take a 5-0 lead. With Levins on the mound for EC, the Saints appeared to have a 1-2-3 inning in the books after the sophomore struck out the first two batters of the inning and appeared to have a third strike on freshman third baseman Julie Olbrych (Youngstown, Ohio) but it was called a ball, opening the flood gates for a Mount Union two-out rally. Next up, junior left fielder Marissa Earl (Massillon, Ohio) would draw a walk to roll the lineup over to the top for Gromes. Gromes would belt an RBI single to center to drive in Olbrych to make it 2-0. Freshman second baseman Kaylah Nieschwitz (Canton, Ohio) followed it up with a two-RBI single to center to make it 4-0 and Kopack would rip the team's third consecutive single, driving in Nieschwitz to give MUC a 5-0 cushion.

Mount Union would add three more in the third with the big blow coming on a two-run homerun by Earl over the left centerfield fence to make it 7-0. Gromes would come up next and drive a triple down the left field line and score on a throwing error to account for the Raiders eight and final run of the afternoon.

Emmanuel would score all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as freshman right fielder Julia Demirali (West Roxbury, Mass.) led off with a single up the middle, breaking up a no-hit bid by MSU freshman hurler Michelle Stiltner (White Lake, Mich.). Freshman pinch runner Jessica Dold (Medfield, Mass.) would take over for Demirali on the bases, advancing to second on a wild pitch, stealing third and then scoring on an RBI single by Lloid to get EC on the board. Landers would draw a walk and come around to score before an RBI groundout by senior pitcher Kathryn Copp (Fremont, N.H.) plated Lloid to make it 8-3.

Over the final three innings, Stiltner would allow just one hit, a single through the left side by Levins, to preserve the Raiders 8-3 win. Stiltner tossed a complete game three hitter, striking out nine along the way.

Levins (0-2) suffered the loss for the Saints while Copp threw well in relief, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing one run of five hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

The victory was the 600th career win for Mount Union Head Coach Sandy Douglas.

Emmanuel will be idle tomorrow and return to action on Thursday when they face Widener at 1:00 PM.
