HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Carroll)

  • Carroll scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning and it proved to be enough as a dynamite pitching performance held Emmanuel to just two hits on the day.
  • After two quick outs in the first, the Pioneers demonstrated great discipline at the plate, drawing five consecutive walks to account for the three runs in the frame. Mathena Higgins, Kate Christian and Allyssa Demma all picked up an RBI for their walks before EC rookie hurler Tianna Dawe (Lynn, Mass.) escaped the jam allowing just the three runs.
  • EC's best chance to get on the board came in the sixth when sophomore shortstop Renae Lacroix (Cumberland, R.I.) singled and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore outfielder Maddie Eastman (Methuen, Mass.).Senior second baseman Kerry Sendrick (Medway, Mass.) drew a walk to put the tying run at the plate but Carroll senior pitcher Amanda Osterhus worked out of the jam to preserve the shutout.
  • Emmanuel's bats were never able to get it going against Osterhus. The NFCA National Pitcher of the Week was dominant, going six innings allowing no runs on just two singles while striking out six to improve to 5-0 on the season.
  • Breanna Roberts came on to work a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save, her first of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Dawe suffered the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year in another strong outing. She allowed just three hits over six innings of work but suffered from seven walks, three of which scored in the defeat.
  • Lacroix collected both Emmanuel hits in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Carnegie Mellon)

  • Emmanuel got on the board first with an RBI groundout by Kiana Hinson (Whittier, Calif.) to go ahead 1-0 in the second.
  • The Tartans answered with four unearned runs in the top of the third to go up 4-1 but EC responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning highlighted by a pair of two-RBI singles by sophomore Grace Orcutt (Lexington, Mass.) and junior Kaitlin Bouchard (South Portland, Maine) to regain a 7-4 lead.
  • Carnegie Mellon took the lead for good with a huge fifth inning, plating eight runs to go up 12-7. All eight of the runs were unearned as the Saints made three errors in the frame.
  • CMU added single runs in the sixth and seventh to account for the 14-7 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Orcutt finished the game going 2-3 at the plate with two RBI and a walk. She also suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 on the year in the pitching circle.
  • First year infielder Maegan Amsler (Hanover, Mass.) went 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
  • Megan Long (Greenville, R.I.) tossed four innings to start the game for EC allowing six runs (zero earned) on 10 hits while striking out three.
