BOSTON – Emmanuel men's and women's indoor track and field got their 2024 season underway this weekend, competing on Saturday in the Early Bird Invitational and on Sunday at the UMass Boston Beacons Season Opener, both hosted at the TRACK at New Balance.
The performance of the weekend came on Saturday with junior
Pierre Paul Labossiere wasting no time returning as one of the conference's best high jumpers. The junior field star broke the indoor program record in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.87 meters. Labossiere previously held the program record, setting it at 1.85 meters last season.
His top finish of the weekend would come on Sunday in the triple jump with a distance of 12.89 meters.
First-year
Nathan Morgan came away with a fourth place finish on Sunday in the 400 meters with his time of 52.99. Fellow first-year
Alex Mazzarelli added a fourth-place finish of his own in Sunday's 800 meters with a time of 2:12.72.
For the Saints women, a pair of 10
th places in Saturday's meet by senior
Caroline Carey, in the 400 meters, and in the shot put by sophomore
Ava Fisher, set the stage for a strong Sunday to follow.
Sunday's women's 800 meters was dominated by the Saints as Emmanuel finished with four of the top five positions. Sophomore
Kendall Newton led the group in second place with a time of 2:41.62. Senior
Sydney Gonzalez placed third, followed by the fourth place finish of junior
Emily Greene and fifth place for first-year
Emma Braga.
A pair of second-place finishes in the field wrapped up the weekend for the Saints women as sophomore
Kason Huynh set a personal best in the long jump with a distance of 5.35 meters while sophomore
Madison Reilly posted second place in the weight throw with her own PR of 11.80 meters.
The Saints take a month off over the holidays before returning on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Suffolk University Ice Breaker, hosted by the TRACK at New Balance.
