STANDISH, Maine – Emmanuel women's and men's outdoor track & field both claimed podium positions at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship this weekend at the track at Saint Joseph's College. The Emmanuel women's program finished runner-up for a second straight season, as the men's program claimed their second straight third-place finish.
Scoring 152 points over the two-day event, the Saints women lost to pre-Championship favorites, the Johnson & Wales Wildcats, as they amassed 177 points for the victory. On the men's side, Emmanuel collected 100 points but the hosts of Saint Joseph's of Maine were unstoppable, as their 316-point total was more than the other four teams combined.
On the women's side, senior
Caroline Carey claimed the win in the 100 meters and 200 meters on Sunday. Carey not only won those two events, but her time of 26.14 in the 200-meter set a new GNAC Championship record. Carey was also part of the Saints 4x100-meter team that set a new program record with a time of 51.10 seconds.
In the high jump, it was a 1-2 finish for the Saints as senior
Desiree Robinson and junior
Emily Greene claimed the top two spots in Saturday's event. With heights of 1.51 and 1.46 meters, respectively, Robinson took home first place with Greene coming in second.
Robinson added two more victories in the field this weekend with first-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. The senior field star finished with a jump of 4.87 meters in the long jump and 10.80 meters in the triple jump to complete the three-jump sweep.
Junior
Ava Fisher helped add a dozen points to the Saints total with a third place in the javelin, fourth place in the shot put, and fifth place in the discus.
For the Emmanuel men, junior
Pierre Paul Labossiere claimed victory in the triple jump and high jump this weekend. With his clearance of 1.85 meters in the high jump, Labossiere tied the GNAC Championship record and set a new outdoor program mark. His 13.64 meters in the triple also set a new GNAC Championship mark.
Senior
Justin Elkin helped collect 18 points in the field for the Saints, claiming two second-place finishes, coming in the shot put and discus, to go along with a fifth place in the javelin.
Sophomores
Ryan Bausch and
Nicholas Ware added second place spots on the track in the 800 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. Fellow sophomore
Jahan Puryear broke his own outdoor program record in the pole vault, setting a new mark at 2.75 meters.
The Saints season comes to a close with the NCAA Division III New England Regionals on May 2 and 3, hosted at the US Coast Guard Academy.
