MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -
Kendall Newton broke the Emmanuel College Outdoor Track & Field 3000-meter program record on Saturday afternoon at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Invitational hosted at Wesleyan University. The junior ran 11:00.03, smashing Hannah Fitzpatrick's previous record of 11:06.90 set in the spring of 2020. Newton, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's Indoor Co-Track Athlete of the Year, finished 12th in the event at Wesleyan and is off to an incredible start to the spring campaign.
The Emmanuel women had a strong open to the outdoor season. GNAC Rookie of the Year,
Alisha Gomes, finished 10th in the 200m (26.36) and 11th in the 400m (63.51). Sophomore
Olivia Costa finished fifth in the 400m in a time of 61.82. GNAC 800m indoor champion
Aida Davis ran 2:28.39 in the 800m event, finishing seventh overall. Sophomore
Donna Gauvin carried the momentum of her success from the indoor season to two personal bests in the 100 meter hurdles (16.22), finishing eighth in the event, and the 200m (28.12).
Ava Fisher set a career-best in the discus throw, 29.46m, good for 11th overall, earned third in the javelin with a throw of 35.44m, and finished 13th in the hammer throw (29.92m).
On the men's side, Shariff Robinson Jr. had a strong start to his rookie outdoor season, running 11.82 in the 100m dash and 24.17 in the 200m.
Nathan Morgan finished 15th overall in the 400m event in 53 seconds flat. The Saints were solid in the field events - Pierre Paul Labossierre long jumped 6.41m for fifth place and high jumped 1.80m for eighth place,
Aidan VanArsdalen threw the javelin 43.99m for 11th place, and
Nathan Haber pole vaulted 3.40m for seventh place. Haber also ran a personal best 200m in 24.31.
The Saints compete again next weekend, Saturday, March 28 at the Southern New Hampshire University Spring Open.
