GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five members of the Emmanuel women's track and field program have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the CSC on Tuesday, June 24.
Class of 2025 graduate Cynthia Brito joins a list of four other rising Emmanuel juniors on the CSC Academic All-District® Team, as Kason Huynh, Julia Kurthy, Amy Proulx, and Madison Reilly round out the five Saints student-athletes to make the squad.
Nomination to the CSC Academic All-District® Team requires a combination of academic and athletic achievements to be selected. Academically, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Athletically, members of the Cross Country and Track and Field Academic All-District® Teams must hold a top-50 individual performance in their region in at least one event. Cross country runners must have a top-50 finish at the regional championships, while track and field participants must have at least one top-50 regional ranking in an individual event.
Brito cleared the bar for nomination with the 18th-ranked indoor triple jump in the Division III East Region, with a distance of 10.63 meters, recorded at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in February. Brito also recorded the 26th-best outdoor triple jump and the 45th-best indoor long jump in the Division III East Region. The Whitman, Mass. native finishes her career as a two-time Academic All-District® Team selection.
Huynh concluded her season with five top-50 regional performances, achieved across both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The best of her rankings came in the indoor long jump, where she recorded the ninth-best distance in the East Region at 5.35 meters in the UMass Boston Season Opener in December. Huynh also ranked inside the top-50 in the indoor and outdoor high jump, the indoor 60-meter hurdles, and the outdoor 100-meter hurdles.
Kurthy scores her first nomination to the Academic All-District® Team with the 41st-ranked 3,000-meter steeplechase in the East Region this season. Kurthy's time of 13:36.68 in the steeplechase came at the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in late April.
Proulx had a pair of top-50 East Regional performances on her way to the CSC Academic All-District® Team. The rising junior split time in both track and field events this season, recording the 43rd-best javelin throw at 28.69 meters and the 49th-ranked 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:17.65, both coming at the SNHU Spring Invite in March.
Reilly finishes out the list of five Saints and makes her first CSC Academic All-District® Team with a 49th-place spot in the East Region in the indoor weight throw. At the UMass Boston Beacons Season Opener, Reilly threw a distance of 11.80 meters for her spot inside the top-50 in the East Region.
Unlike in past years, the nomination to the Academic All-District® team does not necessarily move a student-athlete into consideration for the Academic All-American® ballot. A committee, comprised of Academic All-American® Core Members and members from the CSC will determine which athletes move to the All-American ballot.
Once the ballot is released, CSC members have until July 1 to vote for Academic All-Americans®. The CSC will announce the Academic All-American® First, Second, and Third Teams on Tuesday, July 15.
