WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Emmanuel women's outdoor track & field took home three major awards from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon, as junior
Ava Fisher and first-year
Alisha Gomes were named the Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year, respectively, as announced by the GNAC Office. In addition, the women's coaching staff, led by head coach
Dion Gardner-Crichlow, was voted the GNAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
Fisher helped the Saints to recapture the GNAC Women's Outdoor Title with a first-place, a pair of seconds, and a fifth-place finish at the GNAC Championship Meet. Included in her scores was a program-record-breaking throw of 41.30 meters in the javelin. As of Tuesday's announcement, Fisher holds the 23rd-ranked throw in all of Division III, which would qualify her for the NCAA Nationals on the weekend of May 23.
Gomes took home a pair of individual titles and helped the 4x400 relay to the relay title at the GNAC Championship. Her 100-meter time of 12.61 and 200-meter time of 26.39 both took top spot at the Championship Meet. The relay time of 4:09.44 won the relay by over two seconds.
The Staff of the Year award to Emmanuel is their third of the season, as a sweep of the Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Staffs of the Year makes them the first in GNAC history to sweep the women's staff awards. The Women's Saints programs in Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track & Field also helped Emmanuel become the first institution in GNAC history to claim all three conference titles in the women's meets in a single academic year in conference history.
Should Fisher move on to the NCAA Division III National Championship, the Saints will be in action on the weekend of May 23 in La Crosse, Wisc.
