Game One: Colby-Sawyer 8 Emmanuel 4
In the opener of the doubleheader, the Saints were able to get the bats going early. In the second inning, a single from
Emely Rodriguez, followed by a
Caleigh Venuti walk got some traffic on the bases, and they weren't there long. Sophomore
Samantha Serio started off her big day with a single to bring both of the runners home, giving the team a quick 2-0 advantage.
Â
After two more scoreless innings thanks to Lauren peers on the mound, Serio struck again. This time displaying her power as she knocked a solo shot over the fences, extending the lead to 3-0.
Â
The Chargers were finally able to get to Peers in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kaylee Scott singled to get the inning underway, and it was Larissa Daigle who smashed a home run to bring her home and cut the deficit down to one.
Â
Colby-Sawyer did not stop there, as after the Saints tallied two hits without scoring in the top of the 5th, the Chargers grabbed their first lead of the day. This time it was Kaylee Scott delivering the blow, with a three-run shot to give the home team a 5-3 lead.
Â
The sixth inning was more of the same, with the Chargers tacking on three more runs, taking a commanding 8-3 advantage as they were on the verge of their second win of the campaign.
Grace Garon tallied a sac fly in the 7th, but that was all from the Saints as they dropped the opener by a score of 8-4.
Game Two: Emmanuel 12 Colby-Sawyer 3 (F/5)
The Saints opened the second game swinging, loading the bases in the top of the first inning. It was
Emely Rodriguez who opened the scoring, hitting a sac fly to left field, bringing home
Mia Fernandes.
Rylee Smith kept things going with an RBI single to bring home the second run of the inning, allowing the road team to take a 2-0 lead early for the second straight game.
Â
In the second, Emmanuel really began to impose their will on the Chargers. Fernandes came up to bat with two runners on, and recorded her second hit of the day to bring home
Alexis Martineau. The hit party was just beginning, as Poisson and Garon singled to extend the lead to 4-0.
Â
Still in the second, Rodriguez delivered the crushing blow, hitting an RBI double to bring three runners home, putting the Saints firmly in the driver's seat with a 7-0 advantage.
Â
As Jessica Votour kept things silent from the mound, the offense continued to work. The fourth inning was started by another homer from
Sydney Taylor, her second of the campaign. This was just a solo shot, but the bats remained hot as Emmanuel tallied another three runs after that to take a 12-0 lead.
Â
Colby-Sawyer was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, as they notched three runs, but they were not able to avoid the run-rule in the fifth inning as Emmanuel was able to avenge their game one loss.
Â
Fernandes went an impressive four-for-four from the plate, while Rodriguez tallied just one hit, but brought home four on the day. Votour pitched all five and recorded two strikeouts while only allowing three hits.
