BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer Team cruised to a 2-0 win over the visiting Mustangs of Mount Ida College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match up played at Roberto Clemente Field on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) found the back of the net twice for the Saints, propelling the hosts to the shutout victory. With the GNAC win, Emmanuel improves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Mustangs drop to 1-4 on the season and 0-3 in the GNAC.

The Saints stormed out of the gates, dominating the offensive play for much of the game. Garvey netted her first goal, which would hold up the game-winner, just ten minutes into the game. Senior Logan Carr's (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) corner kick set up Garvey for her 6th goal of the season.

Emmanuel would hold onto its one-goal edge, taking the margin into the break at halftime. At the half, the Saints led the Mustangs in shots, 12-4 (7-2 SOG). Emmanuel continued to pepper Mount Ida keeper Tracy Koukol (North Attleboro, Mass.) with shots in the second frame. The senior goalie was tough between the pipes, but was challenged by Emmanuel's experienced offensive line.

Garvey tacked on another marker in the 57th minute. She drilled in a cross, received from junior forward Candace Scanlon (Millbury, Mass.), putting the Saints up 2-0. Garvey, who was named to the GNAC Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll last week, now has 13 career goals and leads all Emmanuel goal-scorers with 7 goals in 2011.

The Saints finished the day with a 26-4 advantage in shots (17-2 SOG). Koukol wrapped up a strong afternoon with 15 saves. Emmanuel's junior keeper Jessica D'Ottavio (Pawling, N.Y.) picked up the win for the Saints, her 11th career shutout. D'Ottavio made 2 stops on Mount Ida shots en route to the win.

Emmanuel will play next on Monday night (9/19), making the short trip over to Wentworth Institute of Technology for a Colleges of the Fenway (COF) battle with the Leopards. The game is slated to begin at 7:00pm. The Mustangs are also back in action on Monday, when they host Elms College in a 3:30 PM start.
