Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State University earned a 2-1 win over Emmanuel College on Thursday night in non-conference women's soccer action played at FSU's Elliot Field. The Falcons scored just thirteen minutes into the game and never relinquished their lead, improving to 1-2 on the season. The Saints, who out-shot the hosts, 27-13, drop to 2-2 overall with the loss.
Fitchburg's Rachel Mackewicz (Lebanon, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season at 12:24 with an assist coming from Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.), which put the Falcons on the board early. The two-teams were near equal in first-half shots, with the Saints holding an 11-10 advantage, yet trailing 1-0 at halftime.
The second half opened with scoreless play for the first twenty-five minutes, until Fitchburg's Mikaela Foley (Jefferson, Mass.) found Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass.) for her first goal of the season. The Falcons led, 2-0, for the following thirteen minutes.
Emmanuel's lone goal came in the 84th minute of play. Sophomore forward Kelsie Dumas (Dalton, Mass.), who tallied three shots on goal in the game, found the back of the net off an assist from junior midfielder Ashley Cervin (Milford, Conn.). This was Dumas' first career goal and Cervin's second career assist.
Jillian Kirouac played an incredible game and earned the win in goal for the Falcons, stopping 16 of the Saints' 17 shots on goal. Freshman keeper Jenna Marcello (Hopedale, Mass.) suffered the lost for the Saints, making 5 saves in her 90 minutes in net.
Emmanuel will return to action next week, when they open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Saints will travel to Suffolk University on Wednesday night (September 12th) for a 7:00PM start. Fitchburg State hosts WPI on Saturday in a 10:00 AM start.
