Scheala Nielsen, as well as sophomore
Letitia Bossou earned three of the four weekly awards out of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as announced by the conference on Monday. It's the first time this season any Saints women's volleyball player has won a weekly award from the conference.
Bossou took home the GNAC Player of the Week honors as her breakout season continues. In a 4-0 week for Emmanuel, Bossou led the team with 55 kills while hitting an impressive .310 overall. The right side hitter averaged 3.24 kills per set and added eight total blocks and seven digs across 17 sets of play. She was at her best in conference action, tallying 40 kills on a .290 hitting percentage over three GNAC victories.
Huynh scored the GNAC Setter of the Week honors for the first time this season, collecting 101 assists over four matches. Huynh has transformed into a multi-position star for the Saints, as her week of 5.94 assists per set came with 21 kills, 34 digs, and 12 total blocks.
Nielsen made the switch to libero this week, and it paid off with a GNAC Libero of the Week nod. Nielsen averaged an impressive 4.53 digs per set across 15 sets, totaling 68 digs while maintaining a strong .882 reception percentage on 68 attempts. She also contributed 10 assists and four service aces in a perfect 4-0 week for Emmanuel.
The Saints are off to their best start in program history, moving to 19-1 (5-0 GNAC) after a four-win week. The tests for Emmanuel continue with three matches this week, hosting Simmons on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Mitchell on Thursday, Oct. 16, both at 7:00 p.m. The Saints then travel to Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, Oct. 18, for an 11:00 a.m. match.
